After all the mystery that surrounds iPhone 12, the good news is – they have finally been released! Excited debates have been whipping up a real storm on the internet since the official release date in Singapore was announced. Apple fans and consumers alike have gathered in full force. Snaking queues have been formed outside the Apple Store and other telco stores.
This time around, Apple has rolled out four new options: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Featuring expansive edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays combined with the ability to deliver an advanced 5G experience, iPhone 12 is about to mark a new era for the world’s smartphone users!
Now, if you’re still on the fence about whether this new release is worth the hype, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about iPhone 12 – from the hardware and software down to the nitty-gritty.
The first iPhone with 5G technology
The rapid roll-out of the fifth-generation wireless network, 5G, ring in the need for Apple to future-proof their gadgets. That said, Apple has impressed consumers with its breakthrough 5G experience that pushes the boundaries of innovation, with iPhone 12 dubbed as the smartphone with the broadest 5G coverage worldwide. Even though Singapore’s two full-fledged nationwide 5G networks will only be ready by 2025, one thing for sure is that this feature will be more useful to users over time.
Biggest leap in durability
Remember those days where shattered iPhone screens were more common than ever? Finally, Apple is going BIG on durability this season.
If the sleek new flat-edge design with aerospace-grade aluminium enclosure is not enough to impress you, Apple has even supplemented the new iPhone 12 with Ceramic Shield front cover – an infusion of glass and nano ceramic crystals which has been claimed to be four times stronger for drop performance. Like the previous models, iPhone 12 is also splash-, water- and dust-resistant.
Dual-camera system
Passionate photographers and Instagrammers, rejoice! While the camera setup on iPhone 12 appears to be similar to the previous generations’, the overall capability, though, seems to be pretty impressive with its new advanced dual-camera system and 12MP cameras (wide, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses) at the back. Beyond that, it’s said that iPhone 12 is the first device in the world that enables an end-to-end Dolby Vision experience. Shooting cinema-grade videos have become easier than ever.
That is not all. iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max also comes with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor, which enables the camera to auto-focus quicker with higher accuracy. Indeed, iPhone 12 has set itself apart from the previous generations in terms of camera quality.
High-powered wireless charging
MagSafe, an ecosystem of easy-to-attach accessories, were introduced to optimise user’s experience. You’d probably heard of (or own) the magnetic charger for older MacBook. Apple is now officially bringing it back for all the iPhone 12 models.
MagSafe works by enabling the wireless charger to snap onto the back of the device, which is already in-built with a corresponding ring of magnets. Wireless charging has been all the rage lately, and it’s not difficult to see why Apple is hopping on the bandwagon!
One thing to note though – MagSafe is not included in the box, and is sold separately at S$59.
Final Thoughts
All in all, it seems like the all-new iPhone 12 is packed with potential. But whether the bells and whistles are worth it, you make the call.
