Upgrade your Microsoft Surface device for faster performance, larger storage, and longer lifespan.
We offer safe, professional SSD upgrades for the Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Laptop Studio and Surface Book models that take a removable drive — in Singapore, with up to 1-year warranty.

Not all Microsoft Surface devices allow SSD upgrades. Models like the Surface Pro 7+, Pro 8, Pro 9, Pro X, Laptop 3/4/5, Laptop Studio, and Book series have user-removable SSDs, while earlier models such as the Surface Pro 6 have soldered storage. Esmond Service Centre offers upgrades with up to 1-year warranty.
Here’s a full guide to which Surface models support SSD upgrades and which models do not:

We do not publish a fixed price for a Surface SSD upgrade, because the drive itself is not one part. A Surface Pro 7+ takes the short M.2 2230 stick, a Surface Book takes the longer M.2 2280, the Laptop Studio accepts either, and the original Surface Studio uses a different arrangement again — so two Surfaces on the same bench can need two different drives, at whatever capacity you choose. Tell us your Surface model and the capacity you want, on WhatsApp or at our counter, and we quote against it before any work starts. The diagnosis is free and there is no obligation.
| Model | SSD Type |
|---|---|
| Surface Pro 7+ / Pro 8 / Pro 9 / Pro X | M.2 2230 NVMe SSD |
| Surface Laptop 3 / 4 / 5 | M.2 2230 NVMe SSD |
| Surface Laptop Go 2 / Go 3 | M.2 2230 NVMe SSD |
| Surface Book 1 / 2 / 3 | M.2 2280 NVMe SSD |
| Surface Laptop Studio 1 / 2 | M.2 2230 or 2280 NVMe SSD |
| Surface Studio 1 | M.2 SATA SSD (cache) + 2.5" SATA HDD (main) |
| Surface Studio 2 / Surface Studio 2+ | M.2 2280 NVMe SSD |

Microsoft Surface devices are known for performance and portability — but SSD-related issues still happen, especially as the system ages or fills up.
Common SSD problems include:
These issues often indicate a failing SSD or corrupted storage controller. Early diagnosis is key to preventing data loss.
If your Surface is already doing any of the above, stop using it. Every further start-up writes to a drive that is failing, and that is how files that could still have been recovered get overwritten — our own soldered SSD data recovery guide gives the same instruction. There is one Surface-specific warning too: Windows switches device encryption on when the device is set up with a Microsoft, work or school account, and Microsoft says the recovery key is attached to that account. So if your Surface starts asking for a BitLocker recovery key, sign in to that account and get the key before the drive is touched — without it the old drive stays locked and nothing can be copied off it. Bring the Surface in and we will tell you whether your data can be saved before we change anything.

Surface SSD failures can occur due to both hardware wear and software-related problems.
Top reasons for SSD failure:
Upgrading to a new high-endurance SSD restores performance and prevents repeat failure.
