A USB flash drive taken apart on a dark scratched workbench: the two halves of its plain black plastic shell lying open on either side of the bare green circuit board, which carries two unmarked black chips and a brushed-metal USB plug at its right-hand end. USB Flash & Thumb Drive Data Recovery in Singapore

A USB stick is a bare circuit board with three parts that matter: NAND flash memory that holds your files, a controller chip that indexes them, and a metal plug soldered to one end. Almost every failure starts at one of those three — the plug works loose or snaps off, usually while the drive is still in the port; the controller stops answering, so the drive shows 0 bytes or nothing at all; or the file system is corrupted because the stick was pulled out mid-write. In all three the memory chips normally still hold everything. Newer sticks make the job harder rather than hopeless: on a monolithic drive the memory and the controller are moulded into a single sealed chip with no separate parts to work on — the same situation as a soldered onboard SSD — which is exactly why the evaluation is free and comes before any price.

A broken USB flash drive on a dark surface: the dark body lies on its side with a ragged torn opening at one end where the plug pulled out of it, and the separated metal plug still stands in the port of a plain grey machine behind, lit from the side.

Common USB flash drive problems we recover from

If any of that has just happened, stop using the drive now — that one step decides how much comes back. Do not keep pulling it out and pushing it back in: a controller that is already failing can go for good on the next attempt. Do not let Windows format it, do not run CHKDSK, and do not run the manufacturer's own repair utility — each of those writes to the very tables your files are indexed from. A flash drive left unplugged in a drawer loses nothing, so leave it alone and let us look at it first. And once your files are back, put them somewhere that is not another USB stick — our data backup guide covers what a second copy should live on.

Seen from above on an otherwise empty dark grey surface: four unmarked USB flash drives standing side by side with their metal plugs uncapped and facing up the frame — a long dark blue one, a slim brushed-silver one, a black one with its swivelling cover rotated open, and a short red stub.

Brands & formats we support

We recover USB flash and thumb drives from every major brand sold in Singapore — SanDisk Cruzer, Ultra and Extreme sticks, Kingston DataTraveler, Samsung BAR Plus, PNY Attaché, the USB-C sticks that plug straight into a phone, and the unbranded promotional drives handed out at events. Documents, photos, dissertations and business records, for personal, academic and business use.

One hand, entering from the right of the frame, holds a plain grey USB flash drive by the sides of its body and brings its metal plug towards the port of an unmarked aluminium box on a workbench. Hand tools and a solder reel sit out of focus behind, under a task lamp.

How we recover a USB flash drive

Every drive goes through the same four steps, and you know the price before we touch the data:

  1. Free evaluation – we assess the device and tell you exactly what's recoverable.
  2. Quote & approval – you receive a fixed price upfront before any work starts.
  3. Data recovery – performed in-house using safe, industry-standard tools.
  4. Delivery – your recovered files are returned on a new portable drive (available for purchase).
Looking straight down at a worn, dusty black antistatic mat that fills the frame: two unmarked USB flash drives lie side by side with their plugs out, next to a blue coiled antistatic wrist strap with a frayed fabric band, a pair of red-handled cutters, fine tweezers and a small screwdriver.

How much does USB flash drive data recovery cost?

What you pay comes down to one question: can a computer still see the drive? If it can, the fault is logical — deleted or formatted files, a format prompt, a RAW volume — and that is software-level work. If no port on any machine detects it, or the plug has come away from the body, that is a hardware-level job. Every drive starts with a free evaluation and a fixed quote, and on a no-data-no-fee basis you approve the price before recovery begins. These are the rates Esmond Service Centre already publishes on our main data recovery Singapore page, or contact us for a free assessment.

What we recoverStarts at (SGD, excl. GST)Typical turnaround
Software-level recovery — deleted or formatted files, a format prompt, 0 bytes or a RAW volume, drive still detectedFr $95From 1–3 working days
Hardware-level recovery — drive not detected in any USB port, snapped connector or controller fault$580 and aboveFrom 10–14 working days

Had a battery alert warning this morning on my HP Spectre laptop. Ran a battery test and the capacity is only left with 23% despite component test shows Passed. HP support ask me to calibrate the battery which is a very lengthy and tedious procedure and it does not solve the original battery issue of degraded capacity. HP Support also need time (the whole day also never get back to me) to check for stocks and price. I just need a faster clean fix to this issue i.e. simply replace the battery. Searched the Internet and found Esmond Service Centre with good reviews. Fast response and helpful advice. They transferred the battery to the branch at MidView in 2 hours and changed my battery within 30 to 40mins when I was on-site. Price was competitive compared to other quotes I got and also purchased the extended warranty for 1 year for $48. They also provided after sales customer service when I asked about my chargers. Not like some shops who will ignore you after the purchase. Great service and will look for them in future if I need to repair my laptop.Read full reviewShow less

Frequently Asked Questions

My USB drive asks to be formatted — should I do it? +
No. Formatting can make recovery harder. A “format” prompt usually means the file system is corrupted while your files are still present. Bring the drive in for a free assessment and we'll tell you what's recoverable.
Can you recover files from a USB drive that shows 0 bytes or isn't detected? +
Often yes. 0 bytes or a non-detected drive can be a logical (file-system) or controller fault. We diagnose the cause during the free evaluation before any cost is agreed.
The USB connector snapped off — is the data lost? +
Not necessarily. If the memory chip is intact, the data is often recoverable even when the connector is damaged. Stop using the drive and bring it in for assessment.
Which flash drive brands do you recover? +
We handle USB flash and thumb drive recovery for SanDisk, Kingston, Samsung, PNY and other major brands.
How long does USB flash drive data recovery take? +
It depends on the fault. Software-level cases — deleted or formatted files, a format prompt, a drive a computer can still see — typically run from 1–3 working days. Hardware-level cases, where no USB port detects the drive or the connector has snapped, run from 10–14 working days. The free evaluation tells you which one you have before you approve anything.
Is a USB stick safe to use as my backup? +
As one copy, yes. As the only copy, no — a flash drive is the medium most likely to be lost, snapped or pulled out mid-write, and our own data backup guide treats it as a convenience copy alongside something bigger. Once we return your files, keep them in two places.
